ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ ﴿1﴾ عَلَّمَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ ﴿2﴾ خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ ﴿3﴾ عَلَّمَهُ ٱلْبَيَانَ ﴿4﴾ ٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ بِحُسْبَانٍ ﴿5﴾ وَٱلنَّجْمُ وَٱلشَّجَرُ يَسْجُدَانِ ﴿6﴾ وَٱلسَّمَآءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ ٱلْمِيزَانَ ﴿7﴾ أَلَّا تَطْغَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْمِيزَانِ ﴿8﴾ وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلْوَزْنَ بِٱلْقِسْطِ وَلَا تُخْسِرُوا۟ ٱلْمِيزَانَ ﴿9﴾ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَضَعَهَا لِلْأَنَامِ ﴿10﴾ فِيهَا فَٰكِهَةٌ وَٱلنَّخْلُ ذَاتُ ٱلْأَكْمَامِ ﴿11﴾ وَٱلْحَبُّ ذُو ٱلْعَصْفِ وَٱلرَّيْحَانُ ﴿12﴾ فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿13﴾ خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِن صَلْصَٰلٍ كَٱلْفَخَّارِ ﴿14﴾ وَخَلَقَ ٱلْجَآنَّ مِن مَّارِجٍ مِّن نَّارٍ ﴿15﴾ فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿16﴾

Tafsir of Surah Ar-Rahmaan (Yusuf Ali: Abdullah Yusuf Ali)

ٱلرَّحْمَٰنُ ﴿1﴾

English Translation

The Most Merciful (1)

English Transliteration

Alrrahmanu (1)

Tafsir of Verse 1

(Allah) Most Gracious! (1)

عَلَّمَ ٱلْقُرْءَانَ ﴿2﴾

English Translation

Taught the Qur\'an, (2)

English Transliteration

AAallama alqurana (2)

Tafsir of Verse 2

It is He Who has taught the Qur'an. (2)

خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ ﴿3﴾

English Translation

Created man, (3)

English Transliteration

Khalaqa alinsana (3)

Tafsir of Verse 3

He has created man: (3)

عَلَّمَهُ ٱلْبَيَانَ ﴿4﴾

English Translation

[And] taught him eloquence. (4)

English Transliteration

AAallamahu albayana (4)

Tafsir of Verse 4

He has taught him speech (and intelligence). (4)

ٱلشَّمْسُ وَٱلْقَمَرُ بِحُسْبَانٍ ﴿5﴾

English Translation

The sun and the moon [move] by precise calculation, (5)

English Transliteration

Alshshamsu waalqamaru bihusbanin (5)

Tafsir of Verse 5

The sun and the moon follow courses (exactly) computed; (5)

وَٱلنَّجْمُ وَٱلشَّجَرُ يَسْجُدَانِ ﴿6﴾

English Translation

And the stars and trees prostrate. (6)

English Transliteration

Waalnnajmu waalshshajaru yasjudani (6)

Tafsir of Verse 6

And the herbs and the trees - both (alike) prostrate in adoration. (6)

وَٱلسَّمَآءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ ٱلْمِيزَانَ ﴿7﴾

English Translation

And the heaven He raised and imposed the balance (7)

English Transliteration

Waalssamaa rafaAAaha wawadaAAa almeezana (7)

Tafsir of Verse 7

And the Firmament has He raised high, and He has set up the Balance (of Justice), (7)

أَلَّا تَطْغَوْا۟ فِى ٱلْمِيزَانِ ﴿8﴾

English Translation

That you not transgress within the balance. (8)

English Transliteration

Alla tatghaw fee almeezani (8)

Tafsir of Verse 8

In order that ye may not transgress (due) balance. (8)

وَأَقِيمُوا۟ ٱلْوَزْنَ بِٱلْقِسْطِ وَلَا تُخْسِرُوا۟ ٱلْمِيزَانَ ﴿9﴾

English Translation

And establish weight in justice and do not make deficient the balance. (9)

English Transliteration

Waaqeemoo alwazna bialqisti wala tukhsiroo almeezana (9)

Tafsir of Verse 9

So establish weight with justice and fall not short in the balance. (9)

وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَضَعَهَا لِلْأَنَامِ ﴿10﴾

English Translation

And the earth He laid [out] for the creatures. (10)

English Transliteration

Waalarda wadaAAaha lilanami (10)

Tafsir of Verse 10

It is He Who has spread out the earth for (His) creatures: (10)

فِيهَا فَٰكِهَةٌ وَٱلنَّخْلُ ذَاتُ ٱلْأَكْمَامِ ﴿11﴾

English Translation

Therein is fruit and palm trees having sheaths [of dates] (11)

English Transliteration

Feeha fakihatun waalnnakhlu thatu alakmami (11)

Tafsir of Verse 11

Therein is fruit and date-palms, producing spathes (enclosing dates); (11)

وَٱلْحَبُّ ذُو ٱلْعَصْفِ وَٱلرَّيْحَانُ ﴿12﴾

English Translation

And grain having husks and scented plants. (12)

English Transliteration

Waalhabbu thoo alAAasfi waalrrayhani (12)

Tafsir of Verse 12

Also corn, with (its) leaves and stalk for fodder, and sweet-smelling plants. (12)

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿13﴾

English Translation

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? (13)

English Transliteration

Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani (13)

Tafsir of Verse 13

Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? (13)

خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِن صَلْصَٰلٍ كَٱلْفَخَّارِ ﴿14﴾

English Translation

He created man from clay like [that of] pottery. (14)

English Transliteration

Khalaqa alinsana min salsalin kaalfakhkhari (14)

Tafsir of Verse 14

He created man from sounding clay like unto pottery, (14)

وَخَلَقَ ٱلْجَآنَّ مِن مَّارِجٍ مِّن نَّارٍ ﴿15﴾

English Translation

And He created the jinn from a smokeless flame of fire. (15)

English Transliteration

Wakhalaqa aljanna min marijin min narin (15)

Tafsir of Verse 15

And He created Jinns from fire free of smoke: (15)

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ ﴿16﴾

English Translation

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? (16)

English Transliteration

Fabiayyi alai rabbikuma tukaththibani (16)

Tafsir of Verse 16

Then which of the favours of your Lord will ye deny? (16)
