Nun. By the pen and what they inscribe, (1)

Noon waa lqalami wama yast uroona (1)

Nun. By the Pen and the (Record) which (men) write,- (1)
English Translation
You are not, [O Muhammad], by the favor of your Lord, a madman. (2)
English Transliteration
Ma anta biniAAmati rabbika bimajnoonin (2)

Thou art not, by the Grace of thy Lord, mad or possessed. (2)
English Translation
And indeed, for you is a reward uninterrupted. (3)
English Transliteration
Wainna laka laajran ghayra mamnoonin (3)

Nay, verily for thee is a Reward unfailing: (3)
English Translation
And indeed, you are of a great moral character. (4)
English Transliteration
Wainnaka laAAala khuluqin AAath eemin (4)

And thou (standest) on an exalted standard of character. (4)
English Translation
So you will see and they will see (5)
English Transliteration
Fasatubs iru wayubs iroona (5)

Soon wilt thou see, and they will see, (5)
English Translation
Which of you is the afflicted [by a devil]. (6)
English Transliteration
Biayyikumu almaftoonu (6)

Which of you is afflicted with madness. (6)
English Translation
Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who has gone astray from His way, and He is most knowing of the [rightly] guided. (7)
English Transliteration
Inna rabbaka huwa aAAlamu biman d alla AAan sabeelihi wahuwa aAAlamu bia lmuhtadeena (7)

Verily it is thy Lord that knoweth best, which (among men) hath strayed from His Path: and He knoweth best those who receive (true) Guidance. (7)
English Translation
Then do not obey the deniers. (8)
English Transliteration
Fala tut iAAi almukathth ibeena (8)

So hearken not to those who deny (the Truth). (8)
English Translation
They wish that you would soften [in your position], so they would soften [toward you]. (9)
English Transliteration
Waddoo law tudhinu fayudhinoona (9)

Their desire is that thou shouldst be pliant: so would they be pliant. (9)
English Translation
And do not obey every worthless habitual swearer (10)
English Transliteration
Wala tut iAA kulla h alla fin maheenin (10)

Heed not the type of despicable men,- ready with oaths, (10)
English Translation
[And] scorner, going about with malicious gossip - (11)
English Transliteration
Hamma zin mashsha in binameemin (11)

A slanderer, going about with calumnies, (11)
English Translation
A preventer of good, transgressing and sinful, (12)
English Transliteration
Manna AAin lilkhayri muAAtadin atheemin (12)

(Habitually) hindering (all) good, transgressing beyond bounds, deep in sin, (12)
English Translation
Cruel, moreover, and an illegitimate pretender. (13)
English Transliteration
AAutullin baAAda tha lika zaneemin (13)

Violent (and cruel),- with all that, base-born,- (13)
English Translation
Because he is a possessor of wealth and children, (14)
English Transliteration
An ka na tha ma lin wabaneena (14)

Because he possesses wealth and (numerous) sons. (14)
English Translation
When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples." (15)

Itha tutla AAalayhi a ya tuna qa la asat eeru alawwaleena (15)

When to him are rehearsed Our Signs, "Tales of the ancients", he cries! (15)
