وَيْلٌ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ ﴿1﴾ ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ٱكْتَالُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ ﴿2﴾ وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ ﴿3﴾ أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ ﴿4﴾ لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ ﴿5﴾ يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلنَّاسُ لِرَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ ﴿6﴾

Tafsir of Surah Al-Mutaffifin (Arberry: A. J. Arberry)

وَيْلٌ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ ﴿1﴾

English Translation

Woe to those who give less [than due], (1)

English Transliteration

Waylun lilmutaffifeena (1)

Tafsir of Verse 1

Woe to the stinters who, (1)

ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ٱكْتَالُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ ﴿2﴾

English Translation

Who, when they take a measure from people, take in full. (2)

English Transliteration

Allatheena itha iktaloo AAala alnnasi yastawfoona (2)

Tafsir of Verse 2

when they measure against the people, take full measure (2)

وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ ﴿3﴾

English Translation

But if they give by measure or by weight to them, they cause loss. (3)

English Transliteration

Waitha kaloohum aw wazanoohum yukhsiroona (3)

Tafsir of Verse 3

but, when they measure for them or weigh for them, do skimp. (3)

أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ ﴿4﴾

English Translation

Do they not think that they will be resurrected (4)

English Transliteration

Ala yathunnu olaika annahum mabAAoothoona (4)

Tafsir of Verse 4

Do those not think that they shall be raised up (4)

لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ ﴿5﴾

English Translation

For a tremendous Day - (5)

English Transliteration

Liyawmin AAatheemin (5)

Tafsir of Verse 5

unto a mighty day (5)

يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلنَّاسُ لِرَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ ﴿6﴾

English Translation

The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds? (6)

English Transliteration

Yawma yaqoomu alnnasu lirabbi alAAalameena (6)

a day when mankind shall stand before the Lord of all Being? (6)
