When the Sky is cleft asunder; (1)

And when the stars fall, scattering, (2)

Waitha alkawa kibu intatharat (2)

And when the seas are erupted (3)
English Transliteration
Waitha albiha ru fujjirat (3)

When the Oceans are suffered to burst forth; (3)

And when the [contents of] graves are scattered, (4)

Waitha alqubooru buAAthirat (4)

And when the Graves are turned upside down;- (4)

A soul will [then] know what it has put forth and kept back. (5)
English Transliteration
AAalimat nafsun ma qaddamat waakhkharat (5)

(Then) shall each soul know what it hath sent forward and (what it hath) kept back. (5)

O mankind, what has deceived you concerning your Lord, the Generous, (6)

Ya ayyuha alinsa nu ma gharraka birabbika alkareemi (6)

O man! What has seduced thee from thy Lord Most Beneficent?- (6)
English Translation
Who created you, proportioned you, and balanced you? (7)
English Transliteration
Allath ee khalaqaka fasawwa ka faAAadalaka (7)

Him Who created thee. Fashioned thee in due proportion, and gave thee a just bias; (7)
English Translation
In whatever form He willed has He assembled you. (8)
English Transliteration
Fee ayyi s ooratin ma sha a rakkabaka (8)

In whatever Form He wills, does He put thee together. (8)
English Translation
No! But you deny the Recompense. (9)
English Transliteration
Kalla bal tukathth iboona bial ddeeni (9)

Nay! But ye do reject Right and Judgment! (9)

And indeed, [appointed] over you are keepers, (10)
English Transliteration
Wainna AAalaykum laha fith eena (10)

But verily over you (are appointed angels) to protect you,- (10)

Noble and recording; (11)
English Transliteration
Kira man ka tibeena (11)

Kind and honourable,- Writing down (your deeds): (11)

They know whatever you do. (12)
English Transliteration
YaAAlamoona ma tafAAaloona (12)

They know (and understand) all that ye do. (12)

Indeed, the righteous will be in pleasure, (13)
English Transliteration
Inna alabra ra lafee naAAeemin (13)

As for the Righteous, they will be in bliss; (13)

And indeed, the wicked will be in Hellfire. (14)

Wainna alfujja ra lafee jah eemin (14)

And the Wicked - they will be in the Fire, (14)

They will [enter to] burn therein on the Day of Recompense, (15)
English Transliteration
Yas lawnaha yawma al ddeeni (15)

Which they will enter on the Day of Judgment, (15)

And never therefrom will they be absent. (16)
English Transliteration
Wama hum AAanha bigha ibeena (16)

And they will not be able to keep away therefrom. (16)

And what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense? (17)

Wama adra ka ma yawmu al ddeeni (17)

And what will explain to thee what the Day of Judgment is? (17)

Then, what can make you know what is the Day of Recompense? (18)
English Transliteration
Thumma ma adra ka ma yawmu al ddeeni (18)

Again, what will explain to thee what the Day of Judgment is? (18)
English Translation
It is the Day when a soul will not possess for another soul [power to do] a thing; and the command, that Day, is [entirely] with Allah. (19)

Yawma la tamliku nafsun linafsin shayan waa lamru yawmaith in lilla hi (19)

(It will be) the Day when no soul shall have power (to do) aught for another: For the command, that Day, will be (wholly) with Allah. (19)
