سَأَلَ سَآئِلٌۢ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ ﴿1﴾ لِّلْكَٰفِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُۥ دَافِعٌ ﴿2﴾ مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ذِى ٱلْمَعَارِجِ ﴿3﴾ تَعْرُجُ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِى يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُۥ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ ﴿4﴾ فَٱصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا ﴿5﴾ إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُۥ بَعِيدًا ﴿6﴾ وَنَرَىٰهُ قَرِيبًا ﴿7﴾ يَوْمَ تَكُونُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ كَٱلْمُهْلِ ﴿8﴾ وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ ﴿9﴾ وَلَا يَسْـَٔلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًا ﴿10﴾

Tafsir of Surah Al-Ma'aarij (Yusuf Ali: Abdullah Yusuf Ali)

سَأَلَ سَآئِلٌۢ بِعَذَابٍ وَاقِعٍ ﴿1﴾

English Translation

A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen (1)

English Transliteration

Saala sailun biAAathabin waqiAAin (1)

Tafsir of Verse 1

A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- (1)

لِّلْكَٰفِرِينَ لَيْسَ لَهُۥ دَافِعٌ ﴿2﴾

English Translation

To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. (2)

English Transliteration

Lilkafireena laysa lahu dafiAAun (2)

Tafsir of Verse 2

The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- (2)

مِّنَ ٱللَّهِ ذِى ٱلْمَعَارِجِ ﴿3﴾

English Translation

[It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. (3)

English Transliteration

Mina Allahi thee almaAAariji (3)

Tafsir of Verse 3

(A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent. (3)

تَعْرُجُ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ وَٱلرُّوحُ إِلَيْهِ فِى يَوْمٍ كَانَ مِقْدَارُهُۥ خَمْسِينَ أَلْفَ سَنَةٍ ﴿4﴾

English Translation

The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. (4)

English Transliteration

TaAAruju almalaikatu waalrroohu ilayhi fee yawmin kana miqdaruhu khamseena alfa sanatin (4)

Tafsir of Verse 4

The angels and the spirit ascend unto him in a Day the measure whereof is (as) fifty thousand years: (4)

فَٱصْبِرْ صَبْرًا جَمِيلًا ﴿5﴾

English Translation

So be patient with gracious patience. (5)

English Transliteration

Faisbir sabran jameelan (5)

Tafsir of Verse 5

Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment). (5)

إِنَّهُمْ يَرَوْنَهُۥ بَعِيدًا ﴿6﴾

English Translation

Indeed, they see it [as] distant, (6)

English Transliteration

Innahum yarawnahu baAAeedan (6)

Tafsir of Verse 6

They see the (Day) indeed as a far-off (event): (6)

وَنَرَىٰهُ قَرِيبًا ﴿7﴾

English Translation

But We see it [as] near. (7)

English Transliteration

Wanarahu qareeban (7)

Tafsir of Verse 7

But We see it (quite) near. (7)

يَوْمَ تَكُونُ ٱلسَّمَآءُ كَٱلْمُهْلِ ﴿8﴾

English Translation

On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, (8)

English Transliteration

Yawma takoonu alssamao kaalmuhli (8)

Tafsir of Verse 8

The Day that the sky will be like molten brass, (8)

وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ ﴿9﴾

English Translation

And the mountains will be like wool, (9)

English Transliteration

Watakoonu aljibalu kaalAAihni (9)

Tafsir of Verse 9

And the mountains will be like wool, (9)

وَلَا يَسْـَٔلُ حَمِيمٌ حَمِيمًا ﴿10﴾

English Translation

And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, (10)

English Transliteration

Wala yasalu hameemun hameeman (10)

Tafsir of Verse 10

And no friend will ask after a friend, (10)
