سَبِّحِ ٱسْمَ رَبِّكَ ٱلْأَعْلَى ﴿1﴾ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ ﴿2﴾ وَٱلَّذِى قَدَّرَ فَهَدَىٰ ﴿3﴾ وَٱلَّذِىٓ أَخْرَجَ ٱلْمَرْعَىٰ ﴿4﴾ فَجَعَلَهُۥ غُثَآءً أَحْوَىٰ ﴿5﴾ سَنُقْرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنسَىٰٓ ﴿6﴾ إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ يَعْلَمُ ٱلْجَهْرَ وَمَا يَخْفَىٰ ﴿7﴾ وَنُيَسِّرُكَ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ ﴿8﴾ فَذَكِّرْ إِن نَّفَعَتِ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ ﴿9﴾ سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰ ﴿10﴾ وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا ٱلْأَشْقَى ﴿11﴾ ٱلَّذِى يَصْلَى ٱلنَّارَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ ﴿12﴾ ثُمَّ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَىٰ ﴿13﴾ قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ ﴿14﴾ وَذَكَرَ ٱسْمَ رَبِّهِۦ فَصَلَّىٰ ﴿15﴾

Tafsir of Surah Al-A'laa (Arberry: A. J. Arberry)

سَبِّحِ ٱسْمَ رَبِّكَ ٱلْأَعْلَى ﴿1﴾

English Translation

Exalt the name of your Lord, the Most High, (1)

English Transliteration

Sabbihi isma rabbika alaAAla (1)

Tafsir of Verse 1

Magnify the Name of thy Lord the Most High (1)

ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ فَسَوَّىٰ ﴿2﴾

English Translation

Who created and proportioned (2)

English Transliteration

Allathee khalaqa fasawwa (2)

Tafsir of Verse 2

who created and shaped, (2)

وَٱلَّذِى قَدَّرَ فَهَدَىٰ ﴿3﴾

English Translation

And who destined and [then] guided (3)

English Transliteration

Waallathee qaddara fahada (3)

Tafsir of Verse 3

who determined and guided, (3)

وَٱلَّذِىٓ أَخْرَجَ ٱلْمَرْعَىٰ ﴿4﴾

English Translation

And who brings out the pasture (4)

English Transliteration

Waallathee akhraja almarAAa (4)

Tafsir of Verse 4

who brought forth the pasturage (4)

فَجَعَلَهُۥ غُثَآءً أَحْوَىٰ ﴿5﴾

English Translation

And [then] makes it black stubble. (5)

English Transliteration

FajaAAalahu ghuthaan ahwa (5)

Tafsir of Verse 5

then made it a blackening wrack. (5)

سَنُقْرِئُكَ فَلَا تَنسَىٰٓ ﴿6﴾

English Translation

We will make you recite, [O Muhammad], and you will not forget, (6)

English Transliteration

Sanuqrioka fala tansa (6)

Tafsir of Verse 6

We shall make thee recite, to forget not (6)

إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ يَعْلَمُ ٱلْجَهْرَ وَمَا يَخْفَىٰ ﴿7﴾

English Translation

Except what Allah should will. Indeed, He knows what is declared and what is hidden. (7)

English Transliteration

Illa ma shaa Allahu innahu yaAAlamu aljahra wama yakhfa (7)

Tafsir of Verse 7

save what God wills; surely He knows what is spoken aloud and what is hidden. (7)

وَنُيَسِّرُكَ لِلْيُسْرَىٰ ﴿8﴾

English Translation

And We will ease you toward ease. (8)

English Transliteration

Wanuyassiruka lilyusra (8)

Tafsir of Verse 8

We shall ease thee unto the Easing. (8)

فَذَكِّرْ إِن نَّفَعَتِ ٱلذِّكْرَىٰ ﴿9﴾

English Translation

So remind, if the reminder should benefit; (9)

English Transliteration

Fathakkir in nafaAAati alththikra (9)

Tafsir of Verse 9

Therefore remind, if the Reminder profits, (9)

سَيَذَّكَّرُ مَن يَخْشَىٰ ﴿10﴾

English Translation

He who fears [Allah] will be reminded. (10)

English Transliteration

Sayaththakkaru man yakhsha (10)

Tafsir of Verse 10

and he who fears shall remember, (10)

وَيَتَجَنَّبُهَا ٱلْأَشْقَى ﴿11﴾

English Translation

But the wretched one will avoid it - (11)

English Transliteration

Wayatajannabuha alashqa (11)

Tafsir of Verse 11

but the most wretched shall flout it, (11)

ٱلَّذِى يَصْلَى ٱلنَّارَ ٱلْكُبْرَىٰ ﴿12﴾

English Translation

[He] who will [enter and] burn in the greatest Fire, (12)

English Transliteration

Allathee yasla alnnara alkubra (12)

Tafsir of Verse 12

even he who shall roast in the Great Fire, (12)

ثُمَّ لَا يَمُوتُ فِيهَا وَلَا يَحْيَىٰ ﴿13﴾

English Translation

Neither dying therein nor living. (13)

English Transliteration

Thumma la yamootu feeha wala yahya (13)

Tafsir of Verse 13

then he shall neither die therein, nor live. (13)

قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن تَزَكَّىٰ ﴿14﴾

English Translation

He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself (14)

English Transliteration

Qad aflaha man tazakka (14)

Tafsir of Verse 14

Prosperous is he who has cleansed himself, (14)

وَذَكَرَ ٱسْمَ رَبِّهِۦ فَصَلَّىٰ ﴿15﴾

English Translation

And mentions the name of his Lord and prays. (15)

English Transliteration

Wathakara isma rabbihi fasalla (15)

and mentions the Name of his Lord, and prays. (15)
