وَٱلضُّحَىٰ ﴿1﴾ وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا سَجَىٰ ﴿2﴾ مَا وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَمَا قَلَىٰ ﴿3﴾ وَلَلْءَاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ لَّكَ مِنَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ ﴿4﴾ وَلَسَوْفَ يُعْطِيكَ رَبُّكَ فَتَرْضَىٰٓ ﴿5﴾ أَلَمْ يَجِدْكَ يَتِيمًا فَـَٔاوَىٰ ﴿6﴾ وَوَجَدَكَ ضَآلًّا فَهَدَىٰ ﴿7﴾ وَوَجَدَكَ عَآئِلًا فَأَغْنَىٰ ﴿8﴾ فَأَمَّا ٱلْيَتِيمَ فَلَا تَقْهَرْ ﴿9﴾ وَأَمَّا ٱلسَّآئِلَ فَلَا تَنْهَرْ ﴿10﴾ وَأَمَّا بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ فَحَدِّثْ ﴿11﴾

Tafsir of Surah Ad-Dhuhaa (Arberry: A. J. Arberry)

وَٱلضُّحَىٰ ﴿1﴾

English Translation

By the morning brightness (1)

English Transliteration

Waaldduha (1)

Tafsir of Verse 1

By the white forenoon (1)

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذَا سَجَىٰ ﴿2﴾

English Translation

And [by] the night when it covers with darkness, (2)

English Transliteration

Waallayli itha saja (2)

Tafsir of Verse 2

and the brooding night! (2)

مَا وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَمَا قَلَىٰ ﴿3﴾

English Translation

Your Lord has not taken leave of you, [O Muhammad], nor has He detested [you]. (3)

English Transliteration

Ma waddaAAaka rabbuka wama qala (3)

Tafsir of Verse 3

Thy Lord has neither forsaken thee nor hates thee (3)

وَلَلْءَاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌ لَّكَ مِنَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ ﴿4﴾

English Translation

And the Hereafter is better for you than the first [life]. (4)

English Transliteration

Walalakhiratu khayrun laka mina aloola (4)

Tafsir of Verse 4

and the Last shall be better for thee than the First. (4)

وَلَسَوْفَ يُعْطِيكَ رَبُّكَ فَتَرْضَىٰٓ ﴿5﴾

English Translation

And your Lord is going to give you, and you will be satisfied. (5)

English Transliteration

Walasawfa yuAAteeka rabbuka fatarda (5)

Tafsir of Verse 5

Thy Lord shall give thee, and thou shalt be satisfied. (5)

أَلَمْ يَجِدْكَ يَتِيمًا فَـَٔاوَىٰ ﴿6﴾

English Translation

Did He not find you an orphan and give [you] refuge? (6)

English Transliteration

Alam yajidka yateeman faawa (6)

Tafsir of Verse 6

Did He not find thee an orphan, and shelter thee? (6)

وَوَجَدَكَ ضَآلًّا فَهَدَىٰ ﴿7﴾

English Translation

And He found you lost and guided [you], (7)

English Transliteration

Wawajadaka dallan fahada (7)

Tafsir of Verse 7

Did He not find thee erring, and guide thee? (7)

وَوَجَدَكَ عَآئِلًا فَأَغْنَىٰ ﴿8﴾

English Translation

And He found you poor and made [you] self-sufficient. (8)

English Transliteration

Wawajadaka AAailan faaghna (8)

Tafsir of Verse 8

Did He not find thee needy, and suffice thee? (8)

فَأَمَّا ٱلْيَتِيمَ فَلَا تَقْهَرْ ﴿9﴾

English Translation

So as for the orphan, do not oppress [him]. (9)

English Transliteration

Faamma alyateema fala taqhar (9)

Tafsir of Verse 9

As for the orphan, do not oppress him, (9)

وَأَمَّا ٱلسَّآئِلَ فَلَا تَنْهَرْ ﴿10﴾

English Translation

And as for the petitioner, do not repel [him]. (10)

English Transliteration

Waamma alssaila fala tanhar (10)

Tafsir of Verse 10

and as for the beggar, scold him not; (10)

وَأَمَّا بِنِعْمَةِ رَبِّكَ فَحَدِّثْ ﴿11﴾

English Translation

But as for the favor of your Lord, report [it]. (11)

English Transliteration

Waamma biniAAmati rabbika fahaddith (11)

Tafsir of Verse 11

and as for thy Lord's blessing, declare it. (11)
