هَلْ أَتَىٰ عَلَى ٱلْإِنسَٰنِ حِينٌ مِّنَ ٱلدَّهْرِ لَمْ يَكُن شَيْـًٔا مَّذْكُورًا ﴿1﴾ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِن نُّطْفَةٍ أَمْشَاجٍ نَّبْتَلِيهِ فَجَعَلْنَٰهُ سَمِيعًۢا بَصِيرًا ﴿2﴾ إِنَّا هَدَيْنَٰهُ ٱلسَّبِيلَ إِمَّا شَاكِرًا وَإِمَّا كَفُورًا ﴿3﴾ إِنَّآ أَعْتَدْنَا لِلْكَٰفِرِينَ سَلَٰسِلَا۟ وَأَغْلَٰلًا وَسَعِيرًا ﴿4﴾ إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ يَشْرَبُونَ مِن كَأْسٍ كَانَ مِزَاجُهَا كَافُورًا ﴿5﴾

Tafsir of Surah Al-Insaan (Yusuf Ali: Abdullah Yusuf Ali)

هَلْ أَتَىٰ عَلَى ٱلْإِنسَٰنِ حِينٌ مِّنَ ٱلدَّهْرِ لَمْ يَكُن شَيْـًٔا مَّذْكُورًا ﴿1﴾

English Translation

Has there [not] come upon man a period of time when he was not a thing [even] mentioned? (1)

English Transliteration

Hal ata AAala alinsani heenun mina alddahri lam yakun shayan mathkooran (1)

Tafsir of Verse 1

Has there not been over Man a long period of Time, when he was nothing - (not even) mentioned? (1)

إِنَّا خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ مِن نُّطْفَةٍ أَمْشَاجٍ نَّبْتَلِيهِ فَجَعَلْنَٰهُ سَمِيعًۢا بَصِيرًا ﴿2﴾

English Translation

Indeed, We created man from a sperm-drop mixture that We may try him; and We made him hearing and seeing. (2)

English Transliteration

Inna khalaqna alinsana min nutfatin amshajin nabtaleehi fajaAAalnahu sameeAAan baseeran (2)

Tafsir of Verse 2

Verily We created Man from a drop of mingled sperm, in order to try him: So We gave him (the gifts), of Hearing and Sight. (2)

إِنَّا هَدَيْنَٰهُ ٱلسَّبِيلَ إِمَّا شَاكِرًا وَإِمَّا كَفُورًا ﴿3﴾

English Translation

Indeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful. (3)

English Transliteration

Inna hadaynahu alssabeela imma shakiran waimma kafooran (3)

Tafsir of Verse 3

We showed him the Way: whether he be grateful or ungrateful (rests on his will). (3)

إِنَّآ أَعْتَدْنَا لِلْكَٰفِرِينَ سَلَٰسِلَا۟ وَأَغْلَٰلًا وَسَعِيرًا ﴿4﴾

English Translation

Indeed, We have prepared for the disbelievers chains and shackles and a blaze. (4)

English Transliteration

Inna aAAtadna lilkafireena salasila waaghlalan wasaAAeeran (4)

Tafsir of Verse 4

For the Rejecters we have prepared chains, yokes, and a blazing Fire. (4)

إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ يَشْرَبُونَ مِن كَأْسٍ كَانَ مِزَاجُهَا كَافُورًا ﴿5﴾

English Translation

Indeed, the righteous will drink from a cup [of wine] whose mixture is of Kafur, (5)

English Transliteration

Inna alabrara yashraboona min kasin kana mizajuha kafooran (5)

Tafsir of Verse 5

As to the Righteous, they shall drink of a Cup (of Wine) mixed with Kafur,- (5)
