So he made them into fragments, except a large one among them, that they might return to it [and question]. (58)

FajaAAalahum juthath an illa kabeeran lahum laAAallahum ilayhi yarjiAAoona (58)

So he broke them to pieces, (all) but the biggest of them, that they might turn (and address themselves) to it. (58)
English Translation
They said, "Who has done this to our gods? Indeed, he is of the wrongdoers." (59)

They said, "Who has done this to our gods? He must indeed be some man of impiety!" (59)
English Translation
They said, "We heard a young man mention them who is called Abraham." (60)

They said, "We heard a youth talk of them: He is called Abraham." (60)

They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people that they may testify." (61)

They said, "Have you done this to our gods, O Abraham?" (62)

They said, "Art thou the one that did this with our gods, O Abraham?" (62)
English Translation
He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak." (63)

Qa la bal faAAalahu kabeeruhum hatha fai saloohum in ka noo yant iqoona (63)

He said: "Nay, this was done by - this is their biggest one! ask them, if they can speak intelligently!" (63)
English Translation
So they returned to [blaming] themselves and said [to each other], "Indeed, you are the wrongdoers." (64)

So they turned to themselves and said, "Surely ye are the ones in the wrong!" (64)

Then they reversed themselves, [saying], "You have already known that these do not speak!" (65)
English Transliteration
Thumma nukisoo AAala ruoosihim laqad AAalimta ma ha ola i yant iqoona (65)

Then were they confounded with shame: (they said), "Thou knowest full well that these (idols) do not speak!" (65)
English Translation
He said, "Then do you worship instead of Allah that which does not benefit you at all or harm you? (66)
English Transliteration
Qa la afataAAbudoona min dooni Alla hi ma la yanfaAAukum shayan wala yad urrukum (66)

(Abraham) said, "Do ye then worship, besides Allah, things that can neither be of any good to you nor do you harm? (66)
English Translation
Uff to you and to what you worship instead of Allah. Then will you not use reason?" (67)
English Transliteration
Offin lakum walima taAAbudoona min dooni Alla hi afala taAAqiloona (67)

"Fie upon you, and upon the things that ye worship besides Allah! Have ye no sense?".. (67)
English Translation
They said, "Burn him and support your gods - if you are to act." (68)
English Transliteration
Qa loo h arriqoohu wao ns uroo a lihatakum in kuntum fa AAileena (68)

They said, "Burn him and protect your gods, If ye do (anything at all)!" (68)
English Translation
Allah said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham." (69)
English Transliteration
Qulna ya na ru koonee bardan wasala man AAala ibra heema (69)

We said, "O Fire! be thou cool, and (a means of) safety for Abraham!" (69)
English Translation
And they intended for him harm, but We made them the greatest losers. (70)
English Transliteration
Waara doo bihi kaydan fajaAAalna humu alakhsareena (70)

Then they sought a stratagem against him: but We made them the ones that lost most! (70)

And We delivered him and Lot to the land which We had blessed for the worlds. (71)
English Transliteration
Wanajjayna hu waloot an ila alard i allatee ba rakna feeha lilAAa lameena (71)

But We delivered him and (his nephew) Lut (and directed them) to the land which We have blessed for the nations. (71)
English Translation
And We gave him Isaac and Jacob in addition, and all [of them] We made righteous. (72)
English Transliteration
Wawahabna lahu isha qa wayaAAqooba na filatan wakullan jaAAalna sa lih eena (72)
