وَٱلْعَٰدِيَٰتِ ضَبْحًا ﴿1﴾ فَٱلْمُورِيَٰتِ قَدْحًا ﴿2﴾ فَٱلْمُغِيرَٰتِ صُبْحًا ﴿3﴾ فَأَثَرْنَ بِهِۦ نَقْعًا ﴿4﴾ فَوَسَطْنَ بِهِۦ جَمْعًا ﴿5﴾ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ لِرَبِّهِۦ لَكَنُودٌ ﴿6﴾ وَإِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكَ لَشَهِيدٌ ﴿7﴾ وَإِنَّهُۥ لِحُبِّ ٱلْخَيْرِ لَشَدِيدٌ ﴿8﴾ ۞ أَفَلَا يَعْلَمُ إِذَا بُعْثِرَ مَا فِى ٱلْقُبُورِ ﴿9﴾

Tafsir of Surah Al-Aadiyaat (Yusuf Ali: Abdullah Yusuf Ali)

وَٱلْعَٰدِيَٰتِ ضَبْحًا ﴿1﴾

English Translation

By the racers, panting, (1)

English Transliteration

WaalAAadiyati dabhan (1)

Tafsir of Verse 1

By the (Steeds) that run, with panting (breath), (1)

فَٱلْمُورِيَٰتِ قَدْحًا ﴿2﴾

English Translation

And the producers of sparks [when] striking (2)

English Transliteration

Faalmooriyati qadhan (2)

Tafsir of Verse 2

And strike sparks of fire, (2)

فَٱلْمُغِيرَٰتِ صُبْحًا ﴿3﴾

English Translation

And the chargers at dawn, (3)

English Transliteration

Faalmugheerati subhan (3)

Tafsir of Verse 3

And push home the charge in the morning, (3)

فَأَثَرْنَ بِهِۦ نَقْعًا ﴿4﴾

English Translation

Stirring up thereby [clouds of] dust, (4)

English Transliteration

Faatharna bihi naqAAan (4)

Tafsir of Verse 4

And raise the dust in clouds the while, (4)

فَوَسَطْنَ بِهِۦ جَمْعًا ﴿5﴾

English Translation

Arriving thereby in the center collectively, (5)

English Transliteration

Fawasatna bihi jamAAan (5)

Tafsir of Verse 5

And penetrate forthwith into the midst (of the foe) en masse;- (5)

إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَٰنَ لِرَبِّهِۦ لَكَنُودٌ ﴿6﴾

English Translation

Indeed mankind, to his Lord, is ungrateful. (6)

English Transliteration

Inna alinsana lirabbihi lakanoodun (6)

Tafsir of Verse 6

Truly man is, to his Lord, ungrateful; (6)

وَإِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ ذَٰلِكَ لَشَهِيدٌ ﴿7﴾

English Translation

And indeed, he is to that a witness. (7)

English Transliteration

Wainnahu AAala thalika lashaheedun (7)

Tafsir of Verse 7

And to that (fact) he bears witness (by his deeds); (7)

وَإِنَّهُۥ لِحُبِّ ٱلْخَيْرِ لَشَدِيدٌ ﴿8﴾

English Translation

And indeed he is, in love of wealth, intense. (8)

English Transliteration

Wainnahu lihubbi alkhayri lashadeedun (8)

Tafsir of Verse 8

And violent is he in his love of wealth. (8)

۞ أَفَلَا يَعْلَمُ إِذَا بُعْثِرَ مَا فِى ٱلْقُبُورِ ﴿9﴾

English Translation

But does he not know that when the contents of the graves are scattered (9)

English Transliteration

Afala yaAAlamu itha buAAthira ma fee alquboori (9)

Tafsir of Verse 9

Does he not know,- when that which is in the graves is scattered abroad (9)
