Page 520 (Verses from 36 to 45)

وَكَمْ أَهْلَكْنَا قَبْلَهُم مِّن قَرْنٍ هُمْ أَشَدُّ مِنْهُم بَطْشًا فَنَقَّبُوا۟ فِى ٱلْبِلَٰدِ هَلْ مِن مَّحِيصٍ إِنَّ فِى ذَٰلِكَ لَذِكْرَىٰ لِمَن كَانَ لَهُۥ قَلْبٌ أَوْ أَلْقَى ٱلسَّمْعَ وَهُوَ شَهِيدٌ وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا فِى سِتَّةِ أَيَّامٍ وَمَا مَسَّنَا مِن لُّغُوبٍ فَٱصْبِرْ عَلَىٰ مَا يَقُولُونَ وَسَبِّحْ بِحَمْدِ رَبِّكَ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ ٱلشَّمْسِ وَقَبْلَ ٱلْغُرُوبِ وَمِنَ ٱلَّيْلِ فَسَبِّحْهُ وَأَدْبَٰرَ ٱلسُّجُودِ وَٱسْتَمِعْ يَوْمَ يُنَادِ ٱلْمُنَادِ مِن مَّكَانٍ قَرِيبٍ يَوْمَ يَسْمَعُونَ ٱلصَّيْحَةَ بِٱلْحَقِّ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ يَوْمُ ٱلْخُرُوجِ إِنَّا نَحْنُ نُحْىِۦ وَنُمِيتُ وَإِلَيْنَا ٱلْمَصِيرُ يَوْمَ تَشَقَّقُ ٱلْأَرْضُ عَنْهُمْ سِرَاعًا ۚ ذَٰلِكَ حَشْرٌ عَلَيْنَا يَسِيرٌ نَّحْنُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يَقُولُونَ ۖ وَمَآ أَنتَ عَلَيْهِم بِجَبَّارٍ ۖ فَذَكِّرْ بِٱلْقُرْءَانِ مَن يَخَافُ وَعِيدِ

Tafsir of Surah Qaaf (Arberry: A. J. Arberry)

English Translation

And how many a generation before them did We destroy who were greater than them in [striking] power and had explored throughout the lands. Is there any place of escape?

English Transliteration

Wakam ahlakna qablahum min qarnin hum ashaddu minhum batshan fanaqqaboo fee albiladi hal min maheesin

How many a generation We destroyed before them that was stronger in valour than they, then they searched about in the land; was there any asylum?

English Translation

Indeed in that is a reminder for whoever has a heart or who listens while he is present [in mind].

English Transliteration

Inna fee thalika lathikra liman kana lahu qalbun aw alqa alssamAAa wahuwa shaheedun

Surely in that there is a reminder to him who has a heart, or will give ear with a present mind.

English Translation

And We did certainly create the heavens and earth and what is between them in six days, and there touched Us no weariness.

English Transliteration

Walaqad khalaqna alssamawati waalarda wama baynahuma fee sittati ayyamin wama massana min lughoobin

We created the heavens and the earth, and what between them is, in six days, and no weariness touched Us.

English Translation

So be patient, [O Muhammad], over what they say and exalt [Allah] with praise of your Lord before the rising of the sun and before its setting,

English Transliteration

Faisbir AAala ma yaqooloona wasabbih bihamdi rabbika qabla tulooAAi alshshamsi waqabla alghuroobi

So be thou patient under what they say, and proclaim thy Lord's praise before the rising of the sun, and before its setting,

English Translation

And [in part] of the night exalt Him and after prostration.

English Transliteration

Wamina allayli fasabbihhu waadbara alssujoodi

and proclaim thy Lord's praise in the night, and at the ends of the prostrations.

English Translation

And listen on the Day when the Caller will call out from a place that is near -

English Transliteration

WaistamiAA yawma yunadi almunadi min makanin qareebin

And listen thou for the day when the caller shall call from a near place.

English Translation

The Day they will hear the blast [of the Horn] in truth. That is the Day of Emergence [from the graves].

English Transliteration

Yawma yasmaAAoona alssayhata bialhaqqi thalika yawmu alkhurooji

On the day they hear the Cry in truth, that is the day of coming forth.

English Translation

Indeed, it is We who give life and cause death, and to Us is the destination

English Transliteration

Inna nahnu nuhyee wanumeetu wailayna almaseeru

It is We who give life, and make to die, and to Us is the homecoming.

English Translation

On the Day the earth breaks away from them [and they emerge] rapidly; that is a gathering easy for Us.

English Transliteration

Yawma tashaqqaqu alardu AAanhum siraAAan thalika hashrun AAalayna yaseerun

Upon the day when the earth is split asunder from about them as they hasten forth; that is a mustering easy for Us.

English Translation

We are most knowing of what they say, and you are not over them a tyrant. But remind by the Qur\'an whoever fears My threat.

English Transliteration

Nahnu aAAlamu bima yaqooloona wama anta AAalayhim bijabbarin fathakkir bialqurani man yakhafu waAAeedi

We know very well what they say; thou art not a tyrant over them. Therefore remind by the Koran him who fears My threat.
