قٓ ۚ وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ ٱلْمَجِيدِ ﴿1﴾ بَلْ عَجِبُوٓا۟ أَن جَآءَهُم مُّنذِرٌ مِّنْهُمْ فَقَالَ ٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ هَٰذَا شَىْءٌ عَجِيبٌ ﴿2﴾ أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا ۖ ذَٰلِكَ رَجْعٌۢ بَعِيدٌ ﴿3﴾ قَدْ عَلِمْنَا مَا تَنقُصُ ٱلْأَرْضُ مِنْهُمْ ۖ وَعِندَنَا كِتَٰبٌ حَفِيظٌۢ ﴿4﴾ بَلْ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِٱلْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَآءَهُمْ فَهُمْ فِىٓ أَمْرٍ مَّرِيجٍ ﴿5﴾ أَفَلَمْ يَنظُرُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَوْقَهُمْ كَيْفَ بَنَيْنَٰهَا وَزَيَّنَّٰهَا وَمَا لَهَا مِن فُرُوجٍ ﴿6﴾ وَٱلْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَٰهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ وَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوْجٍۭ بَهِيجٍ ﴿7﴾ تَبْصِرَةً وَذِكْرَىٰ لِكُلِّ عَبْدٍ مُّنِيبٍ ﴿8﴾ وَنَزَّلْنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً مُّبَٰرَكًا فَأَنۢبَتْنَا بِهِۦ جَنَّٰتٍ وَحَبَّ ٱلْحَصِيدِ ﴿9﴾ وَٱلنَّخْلَ بَاسِقَٰتٍ لَّهَا طَلْعٌ نَّضِيدٌ ﴿10﴾ رِّزْقًا لِّلْعِبَادِ ۖ وَأَحْيَيْنَا بِهِۦ بَلْدَةً مَّيْتًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ ٱلْخُرُوجُ ﴿11﴾ كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَأَصْحَٰبُ ٱلرَّسِّ وَثَمُودُ ﴿12﴾ وَعَادٌ وَفِرْعَوْنُ وَإِخْوَٰنُ لُوطٍ ﴿13﴾ وَأَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْأَيْكَةِ وَقَوْمُ تُبَّعٍ ۚ كُلٌّ كَذَّبَ ٱلرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ وَعِيدِ ﴿14﴾ أَفَعَيِينَا بِٱلْخَلْقِ ٱلْأَوَّلِ ۚ بَلْ هُمْ فِى لَبْسٍ مِّنْ خَلْقٍ جَدِيدٍ ﴿15﴾

Tafsir of Surah Qaaf (Arberry: A. J. Arberry)

قٓ ۚ وَٱلْقُرْءَانِ ٱلْمَجِيدِ ﴿1﴾

English Translation

Qaf. By the honored Qur\'an... (1)

English Transliteration

Qaf waalqurani almajeedi (1)

Tafsir of Verse 1

Qaf. By the glorious Koran! (1)

بَلْ عَجِبُوٓا۟ أَن جَآءَهُم مُّنذِرٌ مِّنْهُمْ فَقَالَ ٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ هَٰذَا شَىْءٌ عَجِيبٌ ﴿2﴾

English Translation

But they wonder that there has come to them a warner from among themselves, and the disbelievers say, "This is an amazing thing. (2)

English Transliteration

Bal AAajiboo an jaahum munthirun minhum faqala alkafiroona hatha shayon AAajeebun (2)

Tafsir of Verse 2

Nay, but they marvel that a warner has come to them from among them; and the unbelievers say, 'This is a marvellous thing! (2)

أَءِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا ۖ ذَٰلِكَ رَجْعٌۢ بَعِيدٌ ﴿3﴾

English Translation

When we have died and have become dust, [we will return to life]? That is a distant return." (3)

English Transliteration

Aitha mitna wakunna turaban thalika rajAAun baAAeedun (3)

Tafsir of Verse 3

What, when we are dead and become dust? That is a far returning!' (3)

قَدْ عَلِمْنَا مَا تَنقُصُ ٱلْأَرْضُ مِنْهُمْ ۖ وَعِندَنَا كِتَٰبٌ حَفِيظٌۢ ﴿4﴾

English Translation

We know what the earth diminishes of them, and with Us is a retaining record. (4)

English Transliteration

Qad AAalimna ma tanqusu alardu minhum waAAindana kitabun hafeethun (4)

Tafsir of Verse 4

We know what the earth diminishes of them; with Us is a book recording. (4)

بَلْ كَذَّبُوا۟ بِٱلْحَقِّ لَمَّا جَآءَهُمْ فَهُمْ فِىٓ أَمْرٍ مَّرِيجٍ ﴿5﴾

English Translation

But they denied the truth when it came to them, so they are in a confused condition. (5)

English Transliteration

Bal kaththaboo bialhaqqi lamma jaahum fahum fee amrin mareejin (5)

Tafsir of Verse 5

Nay, but they cried lies to the truth when it came to them, and so they are in a case confused. (5)

أَفَلَمْ يَنظُرُوٓا۟ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَوْقَهُمْ كَيْفَ بَنَيْنَٰهَا وَزَيَّنَّٰهَا وَمَا لَهَا مِن فُرُوجٍ ﴿6﴾

English Translation

Have they not looked at the heaven above them - how We structured it and adorned it and [how] it has no rifts? (6)

English Transliteration

Afalam yanthuroo ila alssamai fawqahum kayfa banaynaha wazayyannaha wama laha min furoojin (6)

Tafsir of Verse 6

What, have they not beheld heaven above them, how We have built it, and decked it out fair, and it has no cracks? (6)

وَٱلْأَرْضَ مَدَدْنَٰهَا وَأَلْقَيْنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِىَ وَأَنۢبَتْنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوْجٍۭ بَهِيجٍ ﴿7﴾

English Translation

And the earth - We spread it out and cast therein firmly set mountains and made grow therein [something] of every beautiful kind, (7)

English Transliteration

Waalarda madadnaha waalqayna feeha rawasiya waanbatna feeha min kulli zawjin baheejin (7)

Tafsir of Verse 7

And the earth -- We stretched it forth, and cast on it firm mountains, and We caused to grow therein of every joyous kind (7)

تَبْصِرَةً وَذِكْرَىٰ لِكُلِّ عَبْدٍ مُّنِيبٍ ﴿8﴾

English Translation

Giving insight and a reminder for every servant who turns [to Allah]. (8)

English Transliteration

Tabsiratan wathikra likulli AAabdin muneebin (8)

Tafsir of Verse 8

for an insight and a reminder to every penitent servant. (8)

وَنَزَّلْنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءً مُّبَٰرَكًا فَأَنۢبَتْنَا بِهِۦ جَنَّٰتٍ وَحَبَّ ٱلْحَصِيدِ ﴿9﴾

English Translation

And We have sent down blessed rain from the sky and made grow thereby gardens and grain from the harvest (9)

English Transliteration

Wanazzalna mina alssamai maan mubarakan faanbatna bihi jannatin wahabba alhaseedi (9)

Tafsir of Verse 9

And We sent down out of heaven water blessed, and caused to grow thereby gardens and grain of harvest (9)

وَٱلنَّخْلَ بَاسِقَٰتٍ لَّهَا طَلْعٌ نَّضِيدٌ ﴿10﴾

English Translation

And lofty palm trees having fruit arranged in layers - (10)

English Transliteration

Waalnnakhla basiqatin laha talAAun nadeedun (10)

Tafsir of Verse 10

and tall palm-trees with spathes compact, (10)

رِّزْقًا لِّلْعِبَادِ ۖ وَأَحْيَيْنَا بِهِۦ بَلْدَةً مَّيْتًا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ ٱلْخُرُوجُ ﴿11﴾

English Translation

As provision for the servants, and We have given life thereby to a dead land. Thus is the resurrection. (11)

English Transliteration

Rizqan lilAAibadi waahyayna bihi baldatan maytan kathalika alkhurooju (11)

Tafsir of Verse 11

a provision for the servants, and thereby We revived a land that was dead. Even so is the coming forth. (11)

كَذَّبَتْ قَبْلَهُمْ قَوْمُ نُوحٍ وَأَصْحَٰبُ ٱلرَّسِّ وَثَمُودُ ﴿12﴾

English Translation

The people of Noah denied before them, and the companions of the well and Thamud (12)

English Transliteration

Kaththabat qablahum qawmu noohin waashabu alrrassi wathamoodu (12)

Tafsir of Verse 12

Cried lies before them the people of Noah and the men of Er-Rass, and Thamood, (12)

وَعَادٌ وَفِرْعَوْنُ وَإِخْوَٰنُ لُوطٍ ﴿13﴾

English Translation

And \'Aad and Pharaoh and the brothers of Lot (13)

English Transliteration

WaAAadun wafirAAawnu waikhwanu lootin (13)

Tafsir of Verse 13

and Ad and Pharaoh, the brothers of Lot, (13)

وَأَصْحَٰبُ ٱلْأَيْكَةِ وَقَوْمُ تُبَّعٍ ۚ كُلٌّ كَذَّبَ ٱلرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ وَعِيدِ ﴿14﴾

English Translation

And the companions of the thicket and the people of Tubba\'. All denied the messengers, so My threat was justly fulfilled. (14)

English Transliteration

Waashabu alaykati waqawmu tubbaAAin kullun kaththaba alrrusula fahaqqa waAAeedi (14)

Tafsir of Verse 14

the men of the Thicket, the people of Tubba'. Every one cried lies to the Messengers, and My threat came true. (14)

أَفَعَيِينَا بِٱلْخَلْقِ ٱلْأَوَّلِ ۚ بَلْ هُمْ فِى لَبْسٍ مِّنْ خَلْقٍ جَدِيدٍ ﴿15﴾

English Translation

Did We fail in the first creation? But they are in confusion over a new creation. (15)

English Transliteration

AfaAAayeena bialkhalqi alawwali bal hum fee labsin min khalqin jadeedin (15)

Tafsir of Verse 15

What, were We wearied by the first creation? No indeed; but they are in uncertainty as to the new creation. (15)
