الٓمٓ ﴿1﴾ غُلِبَتِ ٱلرُّومُ ﴿2﴾ فِىٓ أَدْنَى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَهُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ غَلَبِهِمْ سَيَغْلِبُونَ ﴿3﴾ فِى بِضْعِ سِنِينَ ۗ لِلَّهِ ٱلْأَمْرُ مِن قَبْلُ وَمِنۢ بَعْدُ ۚ وَيَوْمَئِذٍ يَفْرَحُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ﴿4﴾ بِنَصْرِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ يَنصُرُ مَن يَشَآءُ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ﴿5﴾

Tafsir of Surah Ar-Room (Yusuf Ali: Abdullah Yusuf Ali)

الٓمٓ ﴿1﴾

English Translation

Alif, Lam, Meem. (1)

English Transliteration

Aliflammeem (1)

Tafsir of Verse 1

A. L. M. (1)

غُلِبَتِ ٱلرُّومُ ﴿2﴾

English Translation

The Byzantines have been defeated (2)

English Transliteration

Ghulibati alrroomu (2)

Tafsir of Verse 2

The Roman Empire has been defeated- (2)

فِىٓ أَدْنَى ٱلْأَرْضِ وَهُم مِّنۢ بَعْدِ غَلَبِهِمْ سَيَغْلِبُونَ ﴿3﴾

English Translation

In the nearest land. But they, after their defeat, will overcome. (3)

English Transliteration

Fee adna alardi wahum min baAAdi ghalabihim sayaghliboona (3)

Tafsir of Verse 3

In a land close by; but they, (even) after (this) defeat of theirs, will soon be victorious- (3)

فِى بِضْعِ سِنِينَ ۗ لِلَّهِ ٱلْأَمْرُ مِن قَبْلُ وَمِنۢ بَعْدُ ۚ وَيَوْمَئِذٍ يَفْرَحُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ﴿4﴾

English Translation

Within three to nine years. To Allah belongs the command before and after. And that day the believers will rejoice (4)

English Transliteration

Fee bidAAi sineena lillahi alamru min qablu wamin baAAdu wayawmaithin yafrahu almuminoona (4)

Tafsir of Verse 4

Within a few years. With Allah is the Decision, in the past and in the Future: on that Day shall the Believers rejoice- (4)

بِنَصْرِ ٱللَّهِ ۚ يَنصُرُ مَن يَشَآءُ ۖ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلرَّحِيمُ ﴿5﴾

English Translation

In the victory of Allah. He gives victory to whom He wills, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful. (5)

English Transliteration

Binasri Allahi yansuru man yashao wahuwa alAAazeezu alrraheemu (5)

Tafsir of Verse 5

With the help of Allah. He helps whom He will, and He is exalted in might, most merciful. (5)
