أَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى يُكَذِّبُ بِٱلدِّينِ ﴿1﴾ فَذَٰلِكَ ٱلَّذِى يَدُعُّ ٱلْيَتِيمَ ﴿2﴾ وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ ﴿3﴾ فَوَيْلٌ لِّلْمُصَلِّينَ ﴿4﴾ ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَن صَلَاتِهِمْ سَاهُونَ ﴿5﴾ ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ يُرَآءُونَ ﴿6﴾ وَيَمْنَعُونَ ٱلْمَاعُونَ ﴿7﴾

Tafsir of Surah Al-Maa'un (Yusuf Ali: Abdullah Yusuf Ali)

أَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى يُكَذِّبُ بِٱلدِّينِ ﴿1﴾

English Translation

Have you seen the one who denies the Recompense? (1)

English Transliteration

Araayta allathee yukaththibu bialddeeni (1)

Tafsir of Verse 1

Seest thou one who denies the Judgment (to come)? (1)

فَذَٰلِكَ ٱلَّذِى يَدُعُّ ٱلْيَتِيمَ ﴿2﴾

English Translation

For that is the one who drives away the orphan (2)

English Transliteration

Fathalika allathee yaduAAAAu alyateema (2)

Tafsir of Verse 2

Then such is the (man) who repulses the orphan (with harshness), (2)

وَلَا يَحُضُّ عَلَىٰ طَعَامِ ٱلْمِسْكِينِ ﴿3﴾

English Translation

And does not encourage the feeding of the poor. (3)

English Transliteration

Wala yahuddu AAala taAAami almiskeeni (3)

Tafsir of Verse 3

And encourages not the feeding of the indigent. (3)

فَوَيْلٌ لِّلْمُصَلِّينَ ﴿4﴾

English Translation

So woe to those who pray (4)

English Transliteration

Fawaylun lilmusalleena (4)

Tafsir of Verse 4

So woe to the worshippers (4)

ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ عَن صَلَاتِهِمْ سَاهُونَ ﴿5﴾

English Translation

[But] who are heedless of their prayer - (5)

English Transliteration

Allatheena hum AAan salatihim sahoona (5)

Tafsir of Verse 5

Who are neglectful of their prayers, (5)

ٱلَّذِينَ هُمْ يُرَآءُونَ ﴿6﴾

English Translation

Those who make show [of their deeds] (6)

English Transliteration

Allatheena hum yuraoona (6)

Tafsir of Verse 6

Those who (want but) to be seen (of men), (6)

وَيَمْنَعُونَ ٱلْمَاعُونَ ﴿7﴾

English Translation

And withhold [simple] assistance. (7)

English Transliteration

WayamnaAAoona almaAAoona (7)

Tafsir of Verse 7

But refuse (to supply) (even) neighbourly needs. (7)
