English Translation
And how many a city which was unjust have We shattered and produced after it another people. (11)

Wakam qas amna min qaryatin ka nat th a limatan waanshana baAAdaha qawman a khareena (11)

How many a city that was evildoing We have shattered, and set up after it another people! (11)
English Translation
And when its inhabitants perceived Our punishment, at once they fled from it. (12)
English Transliteration
Falamma ah assoo basana itha hum minha yarkud oona (12)

Then, when they perceived Our might, behold, they ran headlong out of it. (12)
English Translation
[Some angels said], "Do not flee but return to where you were given luxury and to your homes - perhaps you will be questioned." (13)
English Transliteration
La tarkud oo wai rjiAAoo ila ma otriftum feehi wamasa kinikum laAAallakum tusaloona (13)

'Run not! Return you unto the luxury that you exulted in, and your dwelling-places; haply you shall be questioned.' (13)
English Translation
They said, "O woe to us! Indeed, we were wrongdoers." (14)

Qa loo ya waylana inna kunna th a limeena (14)

They said, 'Alas for us! We have been evildoers.' (14)
English Translation
And that declaration of theirs did not cease until We made them [as] a harvest [mowed down], extinguished [like a fire]. (15)
English Transliteration
Fama za lat tilka daAAwa hum h atta jaAAalna hum h as eedan kha mideena (15)

So they ceased not to cry, until We made them stubble, silent and still. (15)
English Translation
And We did not create the heaven and earth and that between them in play. (16)
English Transliteration
Wama khalaqna al ssama a waa lard a wama baynahuma la AAibeena (16)

We created not the heaven and the earth, and whatsoever between them is, as playing; (16)
English Translation
Had We intended to take a diversion, We could have taken it from [what is] with Us - if [indeed] We were to do so. (17)
English Transliteration
Law aradna an nattakhith a lahwan lai ttakhath na hu min ladunna in kunna fa AAileena (17)

had We desired to take to Us a diversion We would have taken it to Us from Ourselves, had We done aught. (17)
English Translation
Rather, We dash the truth upon falsehood, and it destroys it, and thereupon it departs. And for you is destruction from that which you describe. (18)

Bal naqth ifu bia lh aqqi AAala albat ili fayadmaghuhu faitha huwa za hiqun walakumu alwaylu mimma tas ifoona (18)

Nay, but We hurl the truth against falsehood and it prevails over it, and behold, falsehood vanishes away. Then woe to you for that you describe! (18)
English Translation
To Him belongs whoever is in the heavens and the earth. And those near Him are not prevented by arrogance from His worship, nor do they tire. (19)
English Transliteration
Walahu man fee al ssama wa ti waa lard i waman AAindahu la yastakbiroona AAan AAiba datihi wala yastah siroona (19)

To Him belongs whosoever is in the heavens and the earth; and those who are with Him wax not too proud to do Him service neither grow weary, (19)
English Translation
They exalt [Him] night and day [and] do not slacken. (20)
English Transliteration
Yusabbih oona allayla waal nnaha ra la yafturoona (20)

glorifying Him by night and in the daytime and never failing. (20)
English Translation
Or have men taken for themselves gods from the earth who resurrect [the dead]? (21)
English Transliteration
Ami ittakhath oo a lihatan mina alard i hum yunshiroona (21)

Or have they taken gods out of the earth who raise the dead? (21)
English Translation
Had there been within the heavens and earth gods besides Allah, they both would have been ruined. So exalted is Allah, Lord of the Throne, above what they describe. (22)
English Transliteration
Law ka na feehima a lihatun illa Alla hu lafasadata fasubha na Alla hi rabbi alAAarshi AAamma yas ifoona (22)

Why, were there gods in earth and heaven other than God, they would surely go to ruin; so glory be to God, the Lord of the Throne, above that they describe! (22)
English Translation
He is not questioned about what He does, but they will be questioned. (23)
English Transliteration
La yusalu AAamma yafAAalu wahum yusaloona (23)

He shall not be questioned as to what He does, but they shall he questioned. (23)
English Translation
Or have they taken gods besides Him? Say, [O Muhammad], "Produce your proof. This [Qur\'an] is the message for those with me and the message of those before me." But most of them do not know the truth, so they are turning away. (24)
English Transliteration
Ami ittakhath oo min doonihi a lihatan qul ha too burha nakum hatha th ikru man maAAiya wath ikru man qablee bal aktharuhum la yaAAlamoona alh aqqa fahum muAArid oona (24)

Or have they taken gods apart from Him? Say: 'Bring your proof! This is the Remembrance of him who is with me, and the Remembrance of those before me. Nay, but the most part of them know not the truth, so therefore they are turning away. (24)
