أَلْهَىٰكُمُ ٱلتَّكَاثُرُ ﴿1﴾ حَتَّىٰ زُرْتُمُ ٱلْمَقَابِرَ ﴿2﴾ كَلَّا سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ ﴿3﴾ ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ ﴿4﴾ كَلَّا لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عِلْمَ ٱلْيَقِينِ ﴿5﴾ لَتَرَوُنَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ ﴿6﴾ ثُمَّ لَتَرَوُنَّهَا عَيْنَ ٱلْيَقِينِ ﴿7﴾ ثُمَّ لَتُسْـَٔلُنَّ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَنِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ ﴿8﴾

Tafsir of Surah At-Takaathur (Arberry: A. J. Arberry)

أَلْهَىٰكُمُ ٱلتَّكَاثُرُ ﴿1﴾

English Translation

Competition in [worldly] increase diverts you (1)

English Transliteration

Alhakumu alttakathuru (1)

Tafsir of Verse 1

Gross rivalry diverts you, (1)

حَتَّىٰ زُرْتُمُ ٱلْمَقَابِرَ ﴿2﴾

English Translation

Until you visit the graveyards. (2)

English Transliteration

Hatta zurtumu almaqabira (2)

Tafsir of Verse 2

even till you visit the tombs. (2)

كَلَّا سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ ﴿3﴾

English Translation

No! You are going to know. (3)

English Transliteration

Kalla sawfa taAAlamoona (3)

Tafsir of Verse 3

No indeed; but soon you shall know. (3)

ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَوْفَ تَعْلَمُونَ ﴿4﴾

English Translation

Then no! You are going to know. (4)

English Transliteration

Thumma kalla sawfa taAAlamoona (4)

Tafsir of Verse 4

Again, no indeed; but soon you shall know. (4)

كَلَّا لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عِلْمَ ٱلْيَقِينِ ﴿5﴾

English Translation

No! If you only knew with knowledge of certainty... (5)

English Transliteration

Kalla law taAAlamoona AAilma alyaqeeni (5)

Tafsir of Verse 5

No indeed; did you know with the knowledge of certainty, (5)

لَتَرَوُنَّ ٱلْجَحِيمَ ﴿6﴾

English Translation

You will surely see the Hellfire. (6)

English Transliteration

Latarawunna aljaheema (6)

Tafsir of Verse 6

you shall surely see Hell; (6)

ثُمَّ لَتَرَوُنَّهَا عَيْنَ ٱلْيَقِينِ ﴿7﴾

English Translation

Then you will surely see it with the eye of certainty. (7)

English Transliteration

Thumma latarawunnaha AAayna alyaqeeni (7)

Tafsir of Verse 7

Again, you shall surely see it with the eye of certainty (7)

ثُمَّ لَتُسْـَٔلُنَّ يَوْمَئِذٍ عَنِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ ﴿8﴾

English Translation

Then you will surely be asked that Day about pleasure. (8)

English Transliteration

Thumma latusalunna yawmaithin AAani alnnaAAeemi (8)

Tafsir of Verse 8

then you shall be questioned that day concerning true bliss. (8)
